Dr. Amber Denton, Psy.D.

MA and PsyD – Spalding University

Dr. Amber Denton is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Florida. She completed her PsyD in clinical psychology at Spalding University with a focus on late adolescence and adults. Dr. Denton’s research interests include sex positivity and healthy sexual development.

Dr. Denton completed her internship at Northeast Florida State Hospital where she provided therapy and assessment services to individuals diagnosed with a severe mental illness and served as a member of a crisis stabilization team. Additionally, she completed forensic evaluations for individuals adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity and Incompetent to Stand Trial.

Dr. Denton completed her postdoctoral residency at UF Health – Jacksonville’s Level 1 Trauma Center. She provided crisis stabilization, grief counseling, and brief psychological interventions to patients and families of significant physical trauma such as gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation, brain and spinal cord injuries, premorbid psychiatric conditions, and incidental fatalities. Dr. Denton acted as a support and liaison for families as they worked through a loved one’s prognosis and next treatment steps. Additionally, she served as a participating fellow on the Ethics Committee, a peer reviewer for organ donation research, and was invited to lecture surgical residents in the trauma program.

Dr. Denton then returned to Northeast Florida State Hospital as a licensed psychologist and continued to provide psychological services to Florida’s most vulnerable population. She completed various psychological assessments, include psychodiagnostic evaluations, competency evaluations, conditional release evaluations, suicide risk, and violence risk. She served as a primary supervisor on the internship committee, offering supervised rotations to predoctoral interns, group supervisions, and didactic seminars.

Presently, Dr. Denton conducts comprehension psychological evaluations for adults at Florida Psychological Associates and specializes in forensic evaluation, severe psychopathology, personality disorders, and trauma.
