Dr. Sophia Peaco, PsyD

Dr. Sophia Peaco is a clinical psychology postdoctoral resident.  She completed her PsyD and MS in clinical psychology at Carlos Albizu University, where she focused on Child Psychology and acquired training and experience in providing evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), to children, adolescents, and adults.  Dr. Peaco’s research interests include Emotional Intelligence (EI), including emotion recognition and regulation, as well as parent-child interaction and attachment, and their impact on children’s academic and occupational success.

Dr. Peaco completed her internship at Bright Future Foundation, where she provided mental health services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse via conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations, serving on a crisis hotline, as well as providing individual therapy and crisis intervention with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and TF-CBT techniques.  Dr. Peaco also conducted monthly parenting classes for parents in the process of divorcing or separating.

Dr. Peaco also earned an MA in Psychology at Florida Atlantic University, where she focused on childhood language and emotional development and conducted experimental research on the Happiness/Anger Superiority Effect in facial expression recognition, which she investigated through the paradigm of Continuous Flash Suppression (CFS).  She published her findings in a peer-reviewed journal.

Currently, Dr. Peaco provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for young people, which contribute to children’s mental health treatment and education planning.
