What is your favorite quote that inspires you?

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstance; for this is God’s will for

you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Why did you become a school psychologist?

I come from a family of public-school employees; my mom taught special education for 37 years. I watched her and knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others reach their full potential. In high school, I had the opportunity to volunteer in a special education class.  I met a student who did not have an established method of communication.  As we grew to know each other, I realized that she understood far more receptively than she conveyed expressively. The teacher informed me that the team would be discussing the appropriate educational placement. I asked who helped make those decisions and was told that the school psychologist often made recommendations.  That student, who never spoke a word, changed my life forever and put me on a path toward school psychology and educational advocacy.

Describe yourself in 5 words.

Passionate. Inquisitive. Determined. Faithful. Driven.

What is your favorite part about working for FPA?

It is refreshing to work and collaborate with people who are constantly growing and seeking the best in each interaction. Dr. Drew and Dr. Hume encouraged me to follow my passions to develop my dream job. In my role at FPA, I am able to use my unique skill set to accurately describe children and equip the adults in their life to better support them. I get to share knowledge and help others consider new possibilities… and I get to do it in my home town.

What is one thing that you want our readers to know about you?

I am blessed to have a career that I love and a family that I love even more. I find incredible fulfillment in each of these roles.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Purpose.  I get out of each bed knowing that I have a call on my life and a desire to help those around me reach their full potential.

What makes you happy?

Family. Cool weather. Being outdoors. Music. Walking on the beach. Hope.

What 3 songs would be included on the soundtrack of your life?

His eye is on the sparrow
How you live (Turn up the music) by Point of Grace
If you want me to by Ginny Owens

What you would say to yourself at age 13?

Don’t settle.  You are capable of so much more than you think.  You will love and be loved more than you ever imagined.  Life will be hard and sweet and breathtakingly beautiful and will exceed all your expectations.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be?

I considered being a physician or an educational attorney, but I love my role as a school psychologist and educational advocate.  It is hard to imagine a position that I would enjoy more or find so fulfilling.
