Gwendolyn Brown, M.S.

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

M.S., Clinical Mental Health Counseling – University of North Florida

Prior to entering the counseling profession, Gwendolyn thought she would be a great many things—a musician, actor, comedian, historian, lawyer, novelist. At the root of all her interests was a passion for meaningful connectedness with other people and the world at large. She sought (and eventually found) a vocation that would allow her to channel her compassion and genuine interest in the wellbeing of others eight hours a day, five days a week. Taking an integrative approach to therapy, Gwendolyn matches evidence-based psychotherapeutic practices to the individualized needs of clients from all walks of life. Her favorite quote comes from Mr. Rogers: “Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.”

A native of Maine, Gwendolyn has spent most of her life in Florida, obtaining her B.A. in History from Stetson University and her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida. During her graduate studies, Gwendolyn worked at a variety of mental health settings, including community psychiatric clinics and UNF’s counseling program, PERCH. In response to stressful impact of COVID, Gwendolyn co-created an online mental health support to provide psychoeducation resources to the Florida community. When she isn’t counseling, reading about counseling, thinking about counseling, or talking about counseling, Gwendolyn enjoys creative and professional writing, reading creepy novels, playing showtunes on the piano, writing/filming comedy sketches, getting into heated debates about the origins and long-term implications of the French Revolution, taking acting classes, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her incorrigible brown tabby, Mickey.

You will find Gwendolyn seeing her clients at our office in Fernandina Beach during the week.
